Changing Your Text Size in
Internet Explorer (and Outlook Express)
Have you ever printed out an email that looks like one page only
to see it go on and on in huge type for three or four pages? Or a web site? Do
you seem to have gigantic lettering on the websites you visit and are constantly
scrolling down to view the content? Or maybe it's impossibly small to see?
Then get familiar with Text Sizing in Internet Explorer. It's a
very simple, but surprisingly overlooked usability feature of Internet Explorer.
Simply go to the top menu (with File, View, Insert,
etc) in Internet Explorer.
Go to View, then Text Size, and select from Largest,
Larger, Medium, Smaller, or Smallest.
Try it with this page and notice how things change. Once you
find a spot that's easy on the eyes, move to other pages to see how it fits
there. Remember, you can change it on the fly anytime, so if something gets too
big or small, just do it again.
You'll also notice some font sizes will not change. These are
fixed, through programming languages like Java and Flash. Luckily, they are
usually appropriate for all range of browser settings.
One last tip: when printing out websites and e-mail - set the
view down to the smallest - you'll still get the output, and you'll save a huge amount
of paper and ink!
FYI: you can also change your text size for
e-mail in Outlook Express using the same procedure inside Outlook Express.
