The Motherboard

The Main Circuit Board of a PC.

Typically, the motherboard contains the CPU, BIOS, memory, plus mass storage interfaces, serial and parallel ports, expansion slots, and all the controllers required to control standard peripheral devices, such as the display screen, keyboard, and disk drive. Collectively, all these chips that reside on the motherboard are known as the motherboard's chipset. On most PCs, it is possible to add memory chips directly to the motherboard. You may also be able to upgrade to a faster PC by replacing the CPU chip. To add additional core features, you may need to replace the motherboard entirely. The quality, engineering, and industry compatibility determine the overall value of the motherboard.

We feature first quality industry standard motherboards based on Intel chipsets and CPUs. Our Business Advantage and Server Advantage systems contain motherboards manufactured directly by Intel, as well.

 (C)entral (P)rocessor (U)nit  - The CPU

The Driving Force of the PC.

The power of the CPU is measured by the number of bits of data processed overall in each single computer cycle. Today's PC CPUs deliver many (M)illions of (I)nstructions (P)er (S)econd (MIPS). The determiners as to how fast this is done is analogous to a traffic moving on different highway systems. The speed of the traffic and the number of lanes determine how much traffic can pass. In the CPU world the speed is measured in megahertz clock cycles (MHz), and the width is by the bits that are processed all at once. Old original PC only processed 8 bits per cycle at 10 MHz and delivered less than one MIPS. Today's PCs process 32, 64, or even 128 bits at up to 3000 MHz, delivering hundreds of MIPS.

As important to performance as the CPU is, today's PCs are increasingly more dependent on engineering to avoid bottlenecks throughout the system, just a good traffic management would be for the fast expressway, to clear traffic accidents and keep things moving smoothly. This dependence mandates the chipset, RAM, hard drive, video, and other system devices be engineered for the best performance as well.

To that end, we design and build our systems with advanced engineering support direct from Intel through our continuing  Intel Product Dealer authorized system builder program.
